Start Up Prep First session on 30th January 14

Get, set, ready, Go..

We are all set to start your business venture on this Thursday, 30th January 2014 at 6pm, Our first session will be at Seminar Hall No. 2, near Main building.

Class Schedule
Next 4 weeks, you will be studying and working upon tasks which will prepare you for a 5 day full time boot camp which is due to start on 25th February. During these 4 weeks following lecture and workshop meetings will be organized at COEP.

Text Books
For the course, you will need to use the following textbooks extensively.
  1. Business Model Generation by Alexander Osterwalder
  2. Lean Startup by Eric Ries
  3. The Start Up Owner's manual by Steve Blank
In addition there are some more books recommended for reference. A complete list of books is attached with this message. If you have requested Prof Ashok Saraf to buy these books for you, then you can pick the books on 30th Jan. We will also have few more copies of books for purchase on 30th January, 

Laptop
Please bring your laptop with you for every classroom meeting. Please also bring a virus free USB key for easy exchange of files at the classroom.

Presentation about your business idea
On 30th January, each one of you will be required to present in 60 seconds, what is your business idea. You do not need to prepare any powerpoint presentation. Just describe, what is your business idea? what activities you have already performed to start this business? who are in your team? what do you expect to achieve in this course?

We will have 10 or more teams. Each team will have 4 team members and some students will join in to make the team size to 4 persons. Following is the short introduction to the businesses being developed.

Sachin and Prachi Lakhande are practicing software consultants and would like to develop ERP consulting services business.
Sarang Joshi is a practicing architect and developing business software solution for typical Architect firms. Neethi Venkatachalapathy, a recent graduate architect is teaming up for this project.
Abhishek  Bhat represents the company which has developed high tech engineering design simulation software and would like to take it to global markets.
Rutul Jambhekar is building a web based Skills exchange for easy collaboration among highly skilled professionals.
Priyamvada Bavadekar runs a successful software development and export business and would like to develop North American office.
Ankur Sharma is planning to start an online Scrap trading business and also considering a service for Helmet dry cleaning. 
Sambhaji Chawale owns a fast growing SAP consulting firm and would like to start North American operations.
Vinay Ninave is developing an eCommerce /mobile solution and would like to prepare for Canadian StartUp Visa.

On 30th January, you will listen from all participants more details about their plan.

With this message, I would like to introduce you to various ways in which you can communicate will all course participants, faculty, mentors and organizers.

In addition, these instructions will also be sent to your email addresses listed above. I would encourage all of you to respond with your comments to this blog as well as reply all by email. On 30th Jan when we meet, let us decide whether we should also form a Yahoo or Google or Facebook group for our communications.

I will send you further updates on Monday and instructions for advance preparation for our first class.
